Bridge over Humber River at the Lake Shore Boulevard close to downtown Toronto. It is an interesting piece of architecture.

"A Version of Myself"

I sketched this from one of my photographs about three years ago and touched it up this evening. And, I really do not look like this (this is much prettier, I think!)...maybe except for the really strong jawline and the three piercings in the ear lobes! :)

I made this with Staedtler color pencils that I bought earlier today. These are really neat, you can use the pencils first, and later a wet brush to give the water color look. I love these.

"Heaven meets Earth"

I took this picture about two weeks ago (also at the Barrier lake).

No drawing ventures lately... have become busy with work...

But, I plan on purchasing paper this weekend and working on one of the ideas.

"Touched"

This is one of my favorites. I used the impressions of my palms, colored with water colors. Later, I used crayons to fill out the background. The idea behind this was the fact that our lives are touched and enriched by people around us .

I am still looking for an appropriate frame for this one!

"The Palm"

The palm plant in my living room. It looks much more beautiful in person- if I may use "person" for a plant! :)

Its all free hand using oil crayons.

I have many other ideas running thru my head, but I haven't had the time to actually sit down and put them on canvas. Most of my free time is spent thinking about new job positions and as to how I am going to manage everything if I decide to move out of this part of the world.

"The Fireplace"

The fireplace in my living room. Freehand using water colors. Thereafter added "diffuse glow" filter using Photoshop. It transformed a poor attempt into something good! :)

I have been away for some time, and have ignored to post at my attempts at art. This is just a twist to the "Faces" using the Adobe Photoshop. Too much of spare time to mess around with images!

It looks scary, though!

"Lucky Bamboos"

I like to draw still subjects. One day, I was sick...and bored of being sick, and my gaze settled on these lucky bamboos. I had made Joseph and Smitha buy them for me after Joseph killed my bamboo plant (they were supposed to take care of it while I was gone on one of my conferences).

My attempt at recreating a picture of myself with my then month old nephew! Crayons and water color. I wasn't very impressed with myself, though! :)

"Faces"

Free hand water color, inspired by my friend's 4 year old daughter who loves to draw faces! :)

This one is for my attempts at painting and drawing. I am not very skillful, but I love to draw and paint, time permitting. I find it very relaxing and therapeutic. The elation that comes with having created something, however pathetic it may be, feels really great.

I would have had formal education in art, but you all know how it works in an Indian set-up, you do what your parents expect of you. My Dad wanted me to be in science, and since I loved life sciences because it gave me opportunites to draw (diagrams and illustrations), I yielded.

I think doing basic science research is an art in itself. You think out and create new experiments, get results and apply them to a more relevant clinical setting. However, it can be very frustrating at times when the experiments don't work!

I would be posting drawings on this blog that I make overtime.
